Don’t forget your meds!

Stay safe and make the most of your medications with these reminder tips.

Older woman calling for prescriptions

There’s a good chance you’ll take a medication today. In fact, the number of seniors taking more than five medications per day has increased in the past 20 years.

Yet, studies show that less than half of people prescribed a medication finish it or take it regularly. Ditching your meds can mean huge costs to your health. Protect both your well-being and your wallet with these tips:

  1. Ask your doctor to review all your medications on your next visit. Bring everything in a large bag, including your over-the-counter medications, and find out if they’re all needed.
  2. Go to a Preferred Pharmacy. Independence Blue Cross Medicare Advantage Part D members can save money by filling up to a 90-day supply of generic and preferred generic prescription drugs for only two copayments.* Preferred pharmacies include CVS, ExactCare, Giant, Sam’s Club, ShopRite, Target, Walmart, and Wegmans. Find more participating pharmacies at www.ibxmedicare.com/pharmacyfinder.
  3. See if you can switch to generics. This could cut your out-of-pocket costs. If there is no generic option, ask if a generic medication in the same drug category could be right for you.
