Reaching out for help with concerns about substance use can feel overwhelming. You are not alone. In the United States, nearly 50 million Americans experienced substance use disorder in the past year.1 Fortunately, there are resources and tools available to help. The providers listed below offer specialized, convenient, and private care for substance use disorders.

Find the right support quickly

Independence Blue Cross (IBX) offers behavioral health care navigation services to help our members quickly connect with quality care that meets their or their loved one’s specific needs. Our trained Behavioral Health team is available to:

  • Assess and understand members’ needs and provide information about treatment options
  • Identify in-network providers and directly connect members to care
  • Provide in-the-moment support during tough times
  • Connect members to the right resources to ensure the coordination of their or their loved one’s physical and behavioral health needs, including IBX Case Management for ongoing support

Members should call the number on the back of their IBX ID card under Mental Health or 1-800-688-1911 to reach our Behavioral Health team.

Members can also use the Shatterproof Treatment Atlas tool to find an addiction treatment facility for themselves or a loved one.*

Virtual care substance use providers

The following providers offer high-quality outpatient treatment, including fast access to care, ongoing medication-assisted treatment (MAT), individual counseling, and recovery support services.

Pelago

Pelago is a virtual program for members seeking assistance with alcohol or opioid use. A care team provides assessment, medication, counseling, and an online digital program to support relapse prevention, manage cravings, and receive support via chat and live care hotline.

Pursue Care

Pursue Care provides virtual and in-person substance use and co-occurring mental health care, including withdrawal management, medication management, individual counseling, and case management services for adults with mild to moderate substance use disorders.

Ria Health

Ria Health is a virtual care provider focused on assisting members in changing their relationship with alcohol. Ria Health offers evidence-based outpatient services that combine coaching, counseling, medication, and a technology platform to make getting help with alcohol easier.

Tobacco

Smokefree.gov provides free, accurate, evidence-based information and professional assistance to help support the immediate and long-term needs of people trying to quit smoking. In addition, IBX members can take advantage of the Healthy LifestylesSM Solutions and receive a $150 reimbursement for the cost of a tobacco cessation program.

Vaping

People of all ages have taken an interest in vaping in recent years. Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which is a highly addictive substance. Recent reports indicate that vaping is unsafe can create serious damage to the lungs. Learn the facts about e-cigarettes and the effects they can have on adults and youths by checking out the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Health Effects of Vaping and E-Cigarette Use Among Youth. If you’re concerned that your child or teen is becoming addicted to vaping, help is available. Teen.SmokeFree.gov provides tools, resources, and information to help support young people who want to become smoke-free.

Alcohol

  • Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is open to anyone affected by an alcohol-related disorder. There are no age or education requirements.
  • Al-Anon is a mutual support group of peers who share their experiences in applying the Al-Anon principles to problems related to the effects of alcoholism on people in their lives. | 1‑888‑425‑2666
